Stranger times and misdirection Fall from arms Fear misplaced It's far from cold on lost intention A lunar late But a sanguine call If it isn't there Tiny drop Leaving your line If the time is in pairs Leaning low Stitches entwine One white in quiet time A tiny leap But a deepened fall Wayward sound that signals home Lost my place In longing stall If it isn't there Tiny drop Leaving your line If the time is in pairs Leaning low Stitches entwine

NecRomance 02:49
Standing in the graveyard There's nothing I can see Looking all around me there's a grave that says Stacy Staring at the tomb as I'm tripped and smack my head A dreary omen that Somebody wants me dead Running all around as the blood drips from my face Clawing at the gate And I cannot leave this place And I'm staring at the tomb I slowly slip away I know that there is someone who can't wait for me to stay Standing in the graveyard I am not alone Looking at the someone this has now become my home I know I'll never leave But that's not to my dismay I know that there is someone who can't wait for me to stay

Putrefied grace Anomalous cheers Tendon relic Burning forth Stippled cast Petals in ash Scalped year Through maddened crash Wired raise Serrated, scream of doubt Bloodied grave Misted shout Worn in ways Plexi’s cracked Wasted days Mourning stacked If you’re screaming for me Am I even here?

I know what they have Gonna steal it all Nothing personal Midnight free fall Catch me if you can In a puff of smoke I'll be gone forever This is not a joke No funny stuff Or I'll do the job Late November Ice and fog "This is N467US to Seatac, we are having a 7500" N467US Four parachutes No big mess I'm not a boasting man You don't know my face No fingerprints It's a cold case Raleigh cigarettes Bourbon 7-Up I'm not a killer Don't act up "Tell the passengers we have a fueling issue and circle around the Puget Sound"

Myst 02:56
Your head grows so weary A captain at odds Night in the flight of a poor toy Sharp laying fog Twisted shades of the keyhole The harrowing hand Crooked spite on a chime A mangled dreamland Haunted home Manifestation of mind Healing loam A syndrome unoccupied wind Twisted shades of the keyhole The harrowing hand Crooked spite on a chime A mangled dreamland She lays in prose Thorns wrapped in unending attraction Daytime dose In touch with a twisted refraction

Nox 03:38
I'm sitting by sea Watching the days go by Waiting for when the night sky drowns Wading in the water The pit burns so deeply inside I'm always afraid of foreign thought Swimming in the blackened sea There's no light above or life underneath It seems endless every time Far away from here is where I'll never dine Resting in a broken place Bloody red cry fleeting everyday I'm sure that one day my time will come Scraping away waiting for the sun Burning both the lights Fleeting times going by The stinging cold's so comforting Hoping for my own There's nothing left in my bones The aching breaks my symmetry Swimming in the blackened sea There's no light above or life underneath It seems endless every time Far away from here is where I'll never dine Resting in a broken place Bloody red cry fleeting everyday I'm sure that one day my time will come Scraping away waiting for the sun

about

Distant Apparition starting coming together immediately after the release of Patch Overlap. Cameron and Jacob joined just as that album was completed and both old and new material began to take on a completely new tone. Aggressive and intricate rhythms became the basis for many demos as we composed a balance of very fast hard hitting songs with more delicate pieces. The Hallows EP (Our 2021 Halloween release) was a great test for recording techniques and gave us an idea of where this album was heading.

The actual recording was done in our makeshift studio (featured in the Carlot Salesman video) with a focus on capturing a live performance of each song. We demoed each song to get an idea of what worked and played until we were satisfied with a live take. Overdubs were mostly used for vocals and some guitar, but a majority of the album was done all together in the room just playing the song. Immortal Lakes and Myst are essentially live recordings.

We really focused on the takes that felt right as opposed to a performance that might be "technically" better. As long as there was an energy in the song that represented our idea, we went with it. The rhythm section became a bigger part of the songs compared to Patch Overlap as Jacob and Cameron's styles added a large amount of tempo changes and "groove" to many tracks. Stylistically it ended up kinda all over the place. From the super fast Mocking Time to the expansive jam Plexi, we just wanted to create something that represented us.

Like most Dr.Sanders songs, many of the lyrics based on my personal life experiences. The last year and a half was difficult for many people including us and I channeled those feelings into these songs. If Patch Overlap was the "frustration and regret" album, then I see Distant Apparition as the "grief and anger" album. A very different set of influences. Song like Feed are an interpretations of situations around me, just through my own lens. Glass was easily the hardest song emotionally as it deals heavily with losing someone very close to me. It still gives me goosebumps when I listen to it. Writing songs like that can sometimes feel like ripping out a piece of yourself and throwing it into a performance.

We usually have a surreal touch to our lyrics (and arrangements) as that's just seems to be how it comes out, but for the first time on a record we directly referenced a historical event. The song DB Cooper (look him up when you get a chance) was largely composed by Cameron and Jacob and features Cameron singing. This was also the first album which has every member singing.

Each person had a huge hand in guiding this album and I am immensely proud of it. It wouldn't have sounded anything like it does without all three of us being in the room together. I personally think it's best music I have ever been a part of (doesn't everybody say that about their new album? Well, it's the truth for this record) and I hope you all enjoy it!
